Today is one of the most bitter sweet days of our lives as a family. Two years ago I felt God start speaking to me about what was next for our lives, so I told Brittany. She was nervous and didn’t feel like God was confirming anything in her heart yet. So I continued to pray privately and wait in the Lord. Rewind nearly twenty years, my family and I were driving over to Farmington NM from Prescott AZ on one of the many trips we took leading up to our move to Farmington to plant a church. Tori and I were asking my parents why we had to move away from our church, our friends and our family. My parents told us that God was calling us to move; to this Tori replied “I get it, if we don’t move we will be like Jonah and God will spit us out there any way.” In April of 2015 Brittany came home one day and told me she felt God telling her to get ready for a transition. So we began to pray for 5 cities. Two months later I was at Junior High Camp and I was rooming with Jeremiah Semmler, we began to talk and He told me that God was calling him to plant a church in Phoenix. Without evening knowing Brittany and I were praying about a move to a city and that Phoenix was on the list though it was at the bottom of the list (we like rain and clouds). This started an on going conversation between Jeremiah and I, where we talked about what it would look like for my family to move to Phoenix and be a part of the team at City View. Fast forward 6 months, just this Monday we read our kids the story of Jonah from the Jesus Storybook Bible and discussed it with them. We asked them what Jonah should have done. We told them God was calling us as a family to do something hard and uncomfortable; then we asked them what we should do. Eliora and Eden-James both excitedly replied “we should obey.” We told them God is calling us to move to Phoenix to tell people about Jesus.
This is one of if not the hardest decisions we have ever made, we will miss our church Calvary Farmington so much and we can’t even begin to express how much we will miss our family.
As with many of you we have been singing the song Oceans by Hillsong frequently. The bridge of this song has challenged us and begged the question of whether we really mean the words that we sing.
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior”
Your prayers and support through this transition are appreciated.
